The Leibniz Association connects 96 independent research institutions that range in focus from natural, engineering and environmental sciences to economics, spatial and social sciences and the humanities. Leibniz Institutes address issues of social, economic and ecological relevance. The Leibniz Association includes eight Research Museums.

I was first asked to support the evaluation of a Leibniz Research Museum in 2021 for the Bergbaumuseum in Bochum, Germany. Since then I have advised on the compliance and performance of the Leibniz Zentrum für Archäologie in Mainz, Germany (2023), and the Deutsches Museum in Munich, Germany in 2024 as part of an evaluation committee. My focus and expertise as part of the advisory board during the process lies in particular on the care of collections, research approach and academic output, and infrastructure. As part of this, I have introduced the inspection of storage locations as part of the evaluation, which has since become a fixed part of the evaluation programme.

My critical analysis and advice formed part of the overall advice given about the museums evaluated.
